Valdora's Andy Brodziak's IM UK Race report

Race Report Ironman UK 2011

2011 in Bolton ended up being another good race for me, with a Kona place and a 8th in 30-34.

Sharing with good mate Nick Saunders, who took 3rd overall, we had a few relaxing days leading up to the race with Laura from race office looking after us well at pre-race party,  which was much better than 2 years ago when I last did Bolton!  Must say, what an improvement all round from race organisers.

Swim - gun went off 6am, got into rhythm fairly quick, a PB swim for me which was awesome, 55.04.

Quick transition & off for a solid hard rolling bike day.  Plan was to hold back, wait until 120km and then push home. Rode 5h40, PB on that course for me.  My coach and I have been working on swim/bike combo so it paid off, getting there!

Nice quick transition again, looking forward to the run. Took a few miles to get into stride but was patient and 6/7 miles in I was running nicely, holding back until halfway. At 1hr in our felt quite low and focused on getting some calories in and be patient, it took a while to get the body moving quicker again and lost some ground.

A slow marathon for me, having my good mates in Bolton town centre was helpful, thanks Rik, Caz, Jonny from Profeet. Got round in 3.22 and just missed 10 hours by 2 mins! 8th in age group, just got a Hawaii slot so Bolton for 2nd time has given me a slot.

There was some good depth I think at the race, especially in Pro field. My new Valdora PHX 2 was light on the hills, great on the flats.
Big thanks to Cairn Capital for their support over last 2 years.
Thanks to Profeet for all the great Retul bike fits and shoes. Chelsea & Fulham Chiro's for holding the spine in place, 2XU and GU energy gels.

Massive hug to my almost 1 year old boy Jude and his  mom who have been through this with me and have to sit through another Ironman prep again!! Thanks for believing in me always.
So, next stop 8 weeks on the Big Island, can't wait.
More to follow guys!

Valdora's Christine Hemphill takes 1st ladies Vet at Alpe d'Huez long course triathlon

Valdora's Christine Hemphill battled through rain and cold temps (below 15 degrees) to take top spot in the ladies Vet category and 15th overall in a class field for the Alpe d'Huez long course triathlon. Below is her brief race report:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I raced yesterday on the long course. It was pretty brutal, a big day and course at the best of times but yesterday after fresh snow up high last week the water was 15oC the air temp was below that and it rained most of the day. I finished but really suffered in the cold and lost most of the skin on my toe which was still soft from having lost a big toe nail last week (post Nice) which made the run really painful. Anyway race done. To be honest I'm just proud that I finished as it was a pretty solid hard day out.

Valdora's Christine Hemphill takes 3rd place in Lyon's Tristar 111

Here is Christine's race report... sounds like a very tough event.
I completed the inaugural Tristar 111 in Lyon today. I was really pleased just to have finished (many didn't) and 3rd place was a bonus especially two weeks after Nice Ironman. The course had everything. The 1k swim was in the river past the barges, the ride went into the hills (2000m in 100k) with sunflowers, castles and lovely little villages ...but also torrential rain, lightening, very rough, narrow roads throughout, solid climbs and steep, loose, hairy, scary and cold descents. The bike was one of the hardest I have ever done as intensity was high and there were no sections anywhere on the course for the slightest mental or physical break. Even the run along the river into the old town and back across some lovely bridges had some interesting mixed surfaces to test you. Not a day that will blend into anonymity along with anything else like it!

Valdora's Andy Brodziak's race report Half Ironman Majorca

Andy-brodziak-training-for-
Here's how my day unfolded... What another great race venue.  Flat sea swim greeted us with a nice sunrise on saturday, I lined up at front of my wave and just went for it. Swam a PB for this distance, going 26 mins.
Hit the bike leg, felt good on flat section holding fast pace. Then we climbed Col de Femenia for 20km so that slowed us all up, the Germans were gunning it up here.   Came in off the bike feeling good, ran the 500 m transition and hit the 21 km run leg.  Normally a 1h24 run for me,  I just stayed in a comfortable zone instead and ran a lot slower but felt good.  No worries there as I'm thinking ironman running more in 2 months. My run will pick up quickly so the swim and bike is where I've made big improvements on last season...So went 4 hr 44, 1800 competitors. Slower day due to course, pro's all went around 4-4.15. Until the next one!
Andy

Valdora's Matt Seeley soaks up the pain !!

A couple pictures of Valdora's Pro triathlete, Matt Seeley form the recent Grizley Triathlon in Montana.

10th out of the water, 2nd by the end of the bike.  Did the run on crutches since his foot is injured.
He wonders why it's not getting better!
